What can I study at Trinity College Dublin?
The university has three faculties, which are divided into 24 schools :
- Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences
- Health Sciences
- Consumer Products Consulting.
The student community numbers around 17000, of whom 32 per cent are international students, and you can choose from a vast range of courses, from law to performing arts, chemistry to accounting – and everything in between.
In addition, you could even opt to do a dual BA with Columbia University in New York. Students of history, English, European Studies, Middle Eastern and European languages and culture, can spend two years studying in Dublin and two more in New York.
What are the admission requirements?
Trinity College Dublin accepts 33 percent of applications and sets admissions tests for medicine (the HPAT), music, drama etc. Applications are made online via the CAO, a centralised admissions system, where you will upload documents such as your school reports, references, grades, transcripts and predicted scores – and wait for a conditional or unconditional offer. What facilities will I find at Trinity College?
Trinity College Dublin offers more than 50 sports clubs and 100 societies.
Its University Philosophy Society has Sir Christopher Lee, Al Pacino and Stephen Fry among its honorary patrons and meets every week. The University History Society attracts world-famous speakers, and has been addressed by Winston Churchill and Ted Kennedy. If you are looking for less intense pastimes, you could join the Card and Bridge Club, the Dublin University Players, the Film Society, or the Dance or Fashion Society. There is always something to do, and of course you will be living in lively, exciting Dublin, where the stories, Guinness and the music never stop! The annual Trinity Ball and Regatta are important events in the Irish social calendar, with 7000 students celebrating every April.
Trinity Scholar
Individuals who get a First in the Foundation Scholarship exam will be invited to join the prestigious body of Trinity Scholars. EU students qualify to sit the exam, and if they gain exceptional marks, they will be given free rooms, a free evening meal known as Commons, an annual stipend and will pay no fees. In addition, Scholars can add the letters SCH to their name, and wear robes and a velvet mortarboard on their heads!
What are the fees?
EU students do not pay tuition fees, since these are covered by the Irish government, but they must contribute approximately 3000 euros a year to cover administration, examinations etc.
